From immemorial time, the beauty and grandeur of Taj-Mahal has invited millions of travellers to Agra from all across the world. Although, the city is home to many other historical and majestic monuments, they get shadowed under the huge clouds of fame of the centrepiece attraction – Taj-Mahal.

It was my long time wish to visit Agra and witness the fine specimens of Mughal architecture. I got this wonderful chance two months ago, during winter season in December, when one fine weekend ‘We’ finally decided to head for Agra. This ‘We’ includes a group of five travel buffs, who love to visit any place (worth visiting for).

Day 1 – Taj – Mahal

We started our journey on the cold morning of 12th Dec, from Noida, in our private car. We took the route of Noida- Greater Noida- Yamuna Expressway (the youngest expressway of the country about which I had have heard a lot). The road trip on the rolling roadway is an amazing experience which every traveller should take en route Agra. Backdrop of mustard fields with a misty surrounding on the way were charming sights to watch. After a drive of four and a half hours we reached the site where Taj – Mahal was standing proudly. After parking the car, we marched for the majestic mausoleum. The whole structure built in white marble is unparalleled in its beauty and architecture. As it was weekend time, the place was plunged with a large number of viewers, all just too engrossed in taking pictures and selfies in front of the beautiful monument. It took us two hours to enter the main structure and witness the graves of Shah Jahan and Mumtaj Mahal. After viewing each corner of the structure we left the place with loads of snaps. We had our dinner as we were too hungry after such a long walk during sightseeing. Then we took rest in the hotel, as we have to revive the energy for the next day of our trip.

Day 2 – Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri

After Taj-Mahal, we decided to visit Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri, which are worth visiting place even if you are not a history buff. After having breakfast we head on to Agra Fort which is not far from the main city. The splendid structure is made of red stone, and every part of the structure reciprocates the grand past and power of Mughals. The imperial structure comprises many individual buildings like Khas Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Jahangir Place, three mosques and audience hall. One thing that amazed me the most about these royal structure is that there are no doors in any of these. After taking pics in every nook and corner of the site, we moved to our next destination i.e. Fatehpur Sikri.

Fatehpur Sikri

After having a little shopping in the local markets and buying famous Pethas of the city, we left for Fatehpur Sikri, which is at about two hour drive from Agra. After reaching the site and parking our cars, we boarded one of the buses to reach the fort, which are run by the Agra Tourism Department. As the world heritage site, Fatehpur Sikri was the old capital of Mughals; it is sprawled in vast acres of land. The entire fortified complex is integration of many different structures and buildings and each building is a marvellous piece a supreme beauty and Indo-Islamic craftsmanship. Some noticeable creations include Birbal’s House, Jama Masjid, Panch Mahal, Deewane-e-am, Deewane-e-Khas, royal palaces and official buildings. The famous Buland Darwaza and Salim Chisti’s Tomb is also situated in the complex and takes five minutes-walk to reach there. Taking a full view of the colossal structure of Fatehpur Sikri, we returned back.

After having dinner and taking the same route of Yamuna Expressway, we came back to our old city life. But now we were laden with lots of photographs and memories of a refreshing outing.
